The Lion's Share Fund

Sometimes the big boys get it right.  We at Maureen's Sweet Shoppe love giving to causes we care about.  Animal causes would be our number one soft spot.  Well, today, I read an industry article about The Lion's Share Fund.  It's an initiative of the Mars Company ( M&M's Snickers, Milky Way).  They have started a fund and are donating 0.5% of their advertising budget to the Lion's fund, which funds wildlife conservation.  See, Mars realized that 9 out of the 10 animals that are featured in advertising are on the endangered list.  They are passionate about changing that and protecting the animals from all threats!  We at Maureen's Sweet Shoppe applaud their efforts and encourage you, when you can't get to the shop for your sweet fix, to consider a product from the Mars company!  We sure will.  

Now, we are definitely not able to help on the same level as Mars, but we do try to help local causes as much as possible.  One of our favorite causes is Christina's House in Springfield, MA.  It's a home for women and children that have found themselves homeless.  It enables the women to get their families back on their feet financially, educationally and spiritually all while providing a warm bed, food and the opportunity of education to their children.  We have been supporters of the house while it was still a dream and will continue our ongoing support of them.  We hope you will check them out if you are looking for a worthwhile cause.

Now, it's important to shop local, when you can.  Unlike the big boys, like Mars, community businesses like Maureen's Sweet Shoppe are the backbone of the community.  We support the groups and organizations in town with donations of funds, gifts and or services when necessary, something the big companies cannot do.  By shopping local, when possible, you are supporting the local sports teams, senior center, town activities and animal rescues, just to name a few.  You're also helping us pay our way in the community which provides more jobs for our neighbors.

So, Please shop local when possible.  And, if you are at the checkout stand at the grocery store or the drug store and you need a chocolate fix, please consider a Mars product!
